Secure Self Storage sits on a piece of property formerly known as GAPCO, Gallatin Aluminum Products Company, in Gallatin, Tenn. Gapco was a window manufacturing plant and was started in the mid 50’s. The 229,110 square foot building was vacated in 1999. In August of 2002, the building and property was bought by Robert Goodall, Sr. and Bob Goodall, Jr. with the intention of bringing the building and property back to life. While the building was remodeled and made into office, retail, and warehouse space, there was still property to be used. The old truck parking lot and a space where Ryder Truck Rentals existed was reworked and Secure Self Storage is built on this part of the original property. It is the last phase of the GAPCO renovation for the property.
Secure Self Storage opened its doors on January 2, 2008 with over 300 mini storage units. These units range in size from 5'X5' to 10'X30'. The larger standard self storage units can be used not only for whole house storage but are large enough to accommodate cars, boats, and other recreational vehicles. The climate controlled mini storage units are heated and air conditioned and are used for household furnishings and especially antiques, valuable paperwork, musical instruments, and anything that needs to avoid being stored at temperature extremes. The property has state of the art security measures such as digital keypad access to both the gate and climate controlled units. A vertical lift gate raises high to allow for easy passage into the storage unit area. Video cameras are installed throughout the property with 24 hour video recording. Individualized cylinder locks with specialized keys to fit each lock are placed on the units for added protection.
The property manager, David Woodard, worked for GAPCO for approximately 21 years and is pleased with seeing the building and property being useful once again.
